Volunteer Information

Are you ready to volunteer at the San Bernardino Public Library? Volunteering at the library means getting involved with your community, meeting new people, and learning new things in a friendly, welcoming environment. All volunteers also get the benefits of library experience, letters of recommendation, and receipts of hours, while our volunteers in school can also complete any required volunteer hours here.

Volunteer opportunities may include doing children’s story times, working in the California Room dedicated to local history and more. You can add about Literacy opportunities.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer opportunities are for ages 16 and up. Legal guardian consent will be needed for those under 18. Court mandated community service is not permitted. We ask for a minimum commitment of 4 hours of service each month for a total of 24 hours per 6-month period.

Becoming a Volunteer

Complete the online Volunteer Application. We will receive and review your application. If we think you are a good fit, the City of San Bernardino will reach out for you to schedule a Live Scan Background Check. The background check process can take up to two to three weeks. As soon as you are cleared, we will contact you for a volunteer orientation so you can get started.
